It really was one great affair when Afghanistan recorded a significant win against West Indies at their home ground a couple of days back. It was pretty much unexpected but Afghanistan really showed the world what they are capable of and one man who won it single handedly for them was the young star Rashid Khan. So, what they are up to now? Will it be an easy going for the West Indians or Afghanistan have the mettle to challenge them yet another time?
We predict that it’s West Indies who are going to bounce back strongly this time around and stamp their authority over the minnows. However, if one man is going to make it rough for West Indies then it’s the young leggie Rashid Khan. But we’ll have to wait and watch how it turns out today.
What Afghanistan missed in their innings the other day was some firepower. They played as if they were playing a Test match but ODI cricket is all the more different now and if you have to compete at the top level then you really have to up your batting standards. So, Afghanistan will be expecting a better performance in the batting department and we may see a couple of changes this time as well. Javed Ahmadi was one man in the last game who helped his side to get to a respectable total with 81 runs knock at the top. But what he needs to improve is his strike rate. He showed he is capable of playing big knocks and with just a couple of improvements he can really be the star for Afghanistan. Their captain, Stanikzai hasn’t been able to find his feet since they arrived in the Caribbean. So, a big knock is really due on him this time around. Gulbadin Naib played a splendor of a knock towards the end in the 1st ODI striking 41 from just 28 balls and will be the real threat for the home side.
Talking about their bowling, all eyes will again be on Rashid Khan who bowled magnificently in the first game and the question that remains is will the West Indian batsmen have any answer to his superb bowling today or not. Dawlat Zadran also bowled beautifully in the last game picking up 2 for 25 in his 8 overs and will be in the spot light today as well.
West Indies will be looking to come out of their misery today and they are quite capable of doing that as well. They have enough depth in their batting and if a couple of their batsmen get going then they will really be able to pull off a great win today. Ewin Lewis and Shai Hope got starts the other day but they couldn’t convert those starts into big knocks. That’s what will be expected from them as they step into the ground in the 2nd ODI. Besides, someone in the middle order will have to take the responsibility today to give them a solid foundation. And, they have batsmen very much capable of doing that with the likes of Roston Chase, Jason Mohammed and Jason Holder. But will they be able to do something special today? Well, that’s yet to be seen. Joseph added a few towards the end of the innings in the first game and can provide a thump to the West Indian innings today as well.
West Indian bowlers bowled well in the last game but no one was really able to give that outstanding performance which could have changed the game upside down. Holder and Joseph also went for plenty towards the end of the innings and will have to do some rectification this time around. West Indies will be expecting to have a better performance from Gabriel and Cummins this time around and they will be expected to provide crucial wickets, and not just one of them. Ashley Nurse can also be dangerous and may play a major role today.
