Finally, the wait is over as the Indian cricket board has announced its official stance at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The final decision is that India will be participating in the tournament and they have announced their squad for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. And with very little time left in the start of the tournament, they will now be focusing their efforts to prepare for the tournament and get necessary training to their chosen squad. Talking about the squad, let’s take a look at the players that have been selected for the tournament.
As usual, India will be playing under their regular captain Virat Kohli. He is known for being aggressive on the field and this nature of his reflects in his track record as Indian captain as well. In his short career as captain, he has lead the men-in-blue on 20 occasions and was victorious 16 times. With his 80% win percentage, a lot will depend on how Kohli leads his side against the best teams in the world as they meet in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
In the batting department, the first main stay for the Kohli XI will be the captain himself. Developing his credibility as the wall of Indian batting over the years, Kohli has a habit of performing in the most crunch situations and will be leading his side from the front even in the upcoming tournament. Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh also showed a touch of class in their recent outings in the IPL 2017 and will be expected to come up with some solid performances in the mega event as well. Besides, they have MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma to count on in the batting department.
Indian bowling is quite stronger this time around as compared to what is used to be a few years back. They have included Mohammed Shami in the bowling attack and he will prove to be handy on the seaming tracks and the English conditions. Though he will be playing for the first time in the national side after semi-final of the 2015 World Cup, a lot will depend on how he gets accustomed to the conditions in England. Umesh Yadav was also amongst wickets in IPL and will be expected to give some solid performances with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. In the spin department, they have the veteran R. Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja to take the toll. Yuvraj will also roll his arm over whenever the need be.
So, overall, it’s a pretty well-balanced squad and Indians will be looking to have an impressive run as the tournament gets underway on 1st of June 2017.
