In the rain-affected 1st ODI at Manchester, the home side played exceptionally well to end up on top and chased down the target within 31 overs with 11 overs to spare. With such great form, England will be eyeing another victory in the second ODI. And, despite some good batting performances from West Indies and posting a reasonable total on the board for a 42 over game, West Indian bowlers couldn’t really do the job at the end of the day. Let’s see how the two sides play in the second ODI.
To be honest, England won the first ODI on the back of some superb batting performances from their top order batsmen. And, what helped them rise to the top was the scoring rate at which Bairstow and Root played. Bairstow remained unbeaten on 100 from just 97 balls while Root scored a 53-ball 54. There were little cameos from Alex Hales and Ben Stokes as well. All of them will be the batting strength for England in 2nd ODI as well. But England would want a better effort from their skipper Eoin Morgan.
Their bowlers did a fair job by restricting West Indies to 204 for 9 in 42 overs. Ben Stokes stood out with the ball by picking up 3 for 43 while Woakes picked up 2 for 41 and Rashid was splendid with his 2 for 31 in 9 overs. 1 wicket each went to Ali and Willey as well.
West Indies Strengths
West Indies has seen some good and bad moments during their tour to England so far and now they’ll be looking forward to something special in the 2nd ODI. Chris Gayle looked in good touch in the first match before he got out for 37 and will be expected to play a big knock now. Besides, they’d want to take strength from Ewin Lewis, Shai Hope, Marlon Samuels and Jason Mohammed with the bat. All of them are quite capable and can demolish the opponent on their day pretty easily. Jason Holder also seems in great form, striking 41 from just 33 balls in the last game.
Only Kesrick Williams and Jerome Taylor picked wickets for West Indies in the last game but both were expensive as well. Williams conceded runs at 8.33 RPO picking up 2 for 50 in his 6 overs. So, what West Indies will be looking forward to for 2nd ODI is a far better bowling performance as that’s the area where they lacked in the first game.
