Yes, the next cricketing gala that is scheduled in the ICC 2017 Cricket Calendar is 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. The event is just around the corner and there is not much time left before we could catch the action live. This time around, the event will be played in England and is scheduled between 1st and 18th of June 2017.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Schedule

The tournament is set to start on 1st of June 2017 with the game between England and Bangladesh. The teams have been divided into two groups of 4 teams each. All the teams in each of the groups will be playing against every other team in their respective group. There are basically two stages in which the tournament will be played – the Group Stage and the Knock-out Stage.

Group Stage

The group stage of the tournament will commence from 1st of June and it will last till 12th of June. A total of 12 matches will be played in the Group Stage of ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Total 8 teams will be playing against each other in this stage and they have been divided in two groups. Let’s take a look at how the two groups look like.

Group A

  • Australia
  • Bangladesh
  • England
  • New Zealand

In this group, the arch-rivals England and Australia will be playing the last game of the group on 10th of June. This means a whole new level of excitement will be reached and the fans of both the teams will have to stay on their toes till the last game to be played to decide the group and the teams moving forward to the knock-out stage.

Group B

  • India
  • Pakistan
  • South Africa
  • Sri Lanka

Though this group is tougher compared to Group A, all eyes will be on the game between India and Pakistan. The match is scheduled on 4th of June at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The rivalry has been fueling for years as the two sides have not played each other since their encounters in World Cups and the bilateral series had been taken off the table as India refused to play Pakistan. So, stay-tuned as the time is not so far and we’ll have all the action pretty soon.

Knock-out Stage

Only 3 matches will be played in the knockout stage of the tournament and they are scheduled on 14th, 15th and 18th of June. The two semi-finals will be played on 14th and 15th of the month at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff and Edgbaston, Birmingham. The tournament decider will be played on 18th of June at The Oval, London.

2017 ICC Champions Trophy Venues

As said earlier, the tournament will be played in England this time around and only three venues will be hosting all the games of the tournament. The venues for ICC Champions Trophy 2017 are:

  • The Oval, London
  • Edgbaston, Birmingham
  • Sophia Gardens Cardiff

The Oval, London will be hosting the tournament opener as well as the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final. However, first semi-final will be played at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff and the second semi-final will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Teams

As usual, the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be featuring 8 top teams of the world of cricket. The teams include:

  • Pakistan
  • India
  • Australia
  • England
  • South Africa
  • Sri Lanka
  • New Zealand
  • Bangladesh

Bangladesh have replaced West Indies this time around who finished 9th in the ICC Rankings by the cut-off date for the qualification for this tournament. Bangladesh haven’t participated in any of the Champions Trophy tournaments since 2006. It’s quite an achievement for the young Bangladesh side and now they will be competing with other top ranked sides in the cricket world. West Indies are out of this tournament for the first time in their history.

India and Pakistan are both among the top sides that will be in the contention to lift the trophy. Both the sides have earned great respect in cricketing circles lately and, though, Pakistan are a bit up and down but that’s how they have always been. Their recent run has been quite outstanding under their new captain Sarfraz Ahmad and they’ll be likely to make it to the final four.

India, on the other hand, are blatant as always and under their aggressive captain, Virat Kohli, they are also among the favorites for this tournament. They have a well-balanced squad and will be eyeing another major title.

Australia are the third favorites for the tournament. However, English conditions will suit them as they regularly play their cricket in England, especially, the Ashes. Under their consistent captain, Steven Smith, they will be looking to outsmart not just the hosts but all other teams participating in the tournament. Though there are quite a few new names in the side, but they are still well-poised to make it to the finals of the tournament.

So, it’s just the matter of days now as the tournament is drawing near and we will have a lot to cherish. There will be exciting moments for the cricket fans and soon we will find out who is going to be the Champion of Champions. The competition is stiff and every move will matter. The captains will be on their toes and so will the fans. So, stay tuned and catch all the action from 1st to 18th June 2017.
